Senator Nathan Johnson is confident that voters will recognize his record and send him back to office in a tough primary battle. Texas’ Senate District 16 in Dallas County could see a fierce battle between the Democrats as Sen. Johnson is facing a primary challenge from state Rep. Victoria Neave Criado. Johnson, who was first elected in 2018, welcomes the challenge and believes voters will re-elect him after seeing his record of accomplishments in the Legislature. As Vice-Chair of the Senate’s Committee on Jurisprudence and a member of three other committees, Johnson is considered one of the top experts on fixing the state’s power grid.

Meanwhile, Rep. Neave Criado has criticized Johnson for being too timid and not fighting hard enough against the Republican agenda. However, Johnson dismisses these criticisms, stating that he has frequently called out the state’s leaders and has been consistent in his efforts to deliver results for his constituents. Despite being surprised by Neave Criado’s announcement, Johnson says he is ready to face her in the primary election in 2024.

The primary election in Texas is scheduled for March 5, 2024, and early voting will run from February 20 until March 1. Sen. Johnson remains confident that when voters see his achievements and commitments, they will choose to keep him in office.

Overall, the upcoming Democratic primary in Texas’ Senate District 16 is expected to be a closely-watched contest, with the incumbent senator and his challenger both vying for the opportunity to represent the solidly Democratic district. Voters in Dallas County will have their chance to weigh in on March 5, 2024.
