A woman’s body was found floating in Lake Anna in Virginia, the third person to be recovered from the reservoir since May. The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a body floating in the waters of Spotsylvania County and found the body of a woman. The body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy and identification.
The sheriff’s office had been searching for Maya Olivia Smith, who went missing near Lake Anna in May after renting a boat. Despite finding her belongings aboard an abandoned boat, no evidence of foul play was discovered at the time. The search for Smith had been ongoing before the discovery of the woman’s body.
In a separate incident in May, a 42-year-old father and his 14-year-old son drowned in Lake Anna while the father attempted to rescue his son. Witnesses reported seeing the father struggling before losing sight of him. Despite efforts to save them, both the father and son were pronounced dead on the scene and taken to the medical examiner’s office for examination.
The sheriff’s office does not suspect foul play in the deaths of the father and son, as they were from out of state. The incidents at Lake Anna highlight the dangers of drowning and the importance of water safety, especially during the summer months.
