More than 170 endangered runaways have been rescued as part of a nationwide operation conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service and other agencies, known as “Operation We Will Find You 2.” In total, 200 missing children were found during the operation, with 123 being removed from dangerous situations and 77 found safe in secure locations. Some of the children rescued included a 1-year-old girl, a victim of sexual abuse, and girls suspected of being victims of human trafficking or exploitation.
Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized the importance of keeping children safe and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the Marshals Service and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in rescuing these vulnerable children. The operation focused on high-risk missing children who were likely vulnerable to sexual abuse, trafficking, and exploitation.
The rescue operation took place in several states across the U.S. with high numbers of critically missing children. Director of the U.S. Marshals Service, Ronald Davis, stressed the importance of locating and recovering missing children, highlighting that there are still thousands of children at risk. The success of the operation was evident, with most missing children being recovered within seven days of assistance from the Marshals Service.
Overall, the operation was a collaborative effort between multiple agencies working to protect youth and ensure that children are not forgotten. The President and CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Michelle DeLaune, commended the agencies involved for their commitment to child safety and emphasized the importance of each rescued child having the opportunity to grow up safe from harm.
