The West Virginia Department of Human Services Bureau for Family Assistance has started accepting school clothing allowance applications for eligible children in the state. The program provides a $200 benefit to help families purchase school clothing or piece goods for children. Applications must be submitted by July 31, and recipients will receive an electronic benefit transfer card instead of a paper voucher.
Eligible families include those receiving WV WORKS assistance, children in foster care, and those enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Families with household incomes below 130% of the Federal Poverty Level automatically receive benefits for each school-aged child. Others may be eligible if their monthly income does not exceed $3,250 for a family of four, and income verification for July 2024 must be provided with the application.
Families can apply online at wvpath.wv.gov or request a paper application from their local DoHS county office or the Office of Constituent Services’ Customer Service Center. Recipients of the program in 2023 who have Medicaid coverage should have already received an application by mail.
This program aims to assist families in ensuring that children have the necessary clothing for the upcoming school year. It offers a convenient way for families to access funds through an electronic benefit transfer card, which can be used at retailers accepting EBT transactions. Parents or guardians of children in foster care will receive the benefit as a check.
