Alison Miller Appointed Chief Human Resources Officer at Virginia Commonwealth University
Alison Miller has been named the new chief human resources officer at Virginia Commonwealth University, taking over the role effective July 1. Miller, who has been serving as the interim assistant vice president for human resources, will now oversee VCU’s human resource management strategy, including recruitment, retention, benefits, career development, and more.
In her time at VCU, Miller has led initiatives to modernize HR practices and policies, creating a culture of care and appreciation for employees. She has focused on employee outreach and data-driven decision making, providing opportunities for professional growth and feedback sharing. Miller’s vision for VCU is to make it the best place employees have ever worked, prioritizing their needs and preferences.
With over 25 years of experience in HR leadership, Miller previously worked at the University of Virginia as the director of Total Rewards, designing strategies to support the university’s goals and mission. She has been recognized for her leadership and dedication by industry peers, including receiving the Alcott HR Stewardship Award from Richmond SHRM.
Meredith Weiss, VCU’s senior vice president of finance and administration, praised Miller for her expertise and ability to connect, support, and celebrate the talented team at VCU. Miller’s practical and innovative solutions align with VCU’s culture and strategic goals.
Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary and a master’s in public administration from VCU.
