Addie Boggs, a teacher at Woodsdale Elementary School, has written a children’s book titled “The Wonderfully Wild Ones” that introduces kids to special places in West Virginia. Illustrated by West Virginia native Ashley Belote, the story follows three lions from Oglebay Park’s Good Zoo as they embark on an adventure across the state, visiting landmarks like Milan Puskar Stadium, Marshall University, the New River Gorge Bridge, and Coopers Rock State Forest. The book also includes a “Wonderfully Wild Bucket List” of activities for children to enjoy in West Virginia.
Boggs, who grew up in Wheeling, initially found the state boring but changed her perspective after participating in Adventure WV at West Virginia University. She hopes the book will help children appreciate the unique aspects of West Virginia and become more vested in the state’s future.
After seven years as a special education teacher, Boggs is being recommended for a media teacher position at Woodsdale Elementary following the retirement of Sandra Wiseman. She plans to have book signings in the fall and make copies of “The Wonderfully Wild Ones” available through local bookstores. The Ohio County Board of Education will consider her transfer request at their upcoming meeting.
Through her book, Boggs aims to inspire curiosity and appreciation for the beauty and culture of West Virginia among young readers, highlighting the state’s landmarks and geography. Keep an eye out for upcoming opportunities to get a copy of “The Wonderfully Wild Ones” and join in on the adventure!
