Tropical Storm Beryl, which has already caused at least 11 deaths across the Caribbean, is expected to strengthen back into a hurricane as it approaches the US state of Texas. The storm, which briefly reached Category 5 intensity, is expected to make landfall in Texas on Sunday night, potentially causing storm surges, flash flooding, and life-threatening rip currents.

The storm had previously made landfall in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula before heading towards Texas. While no deaths were reported in Mexico, Beryl caused significant property damage and power outages in the region. Thousands of tourists were evacuated, and flights were cancelled at Cancun airport.

The Caribbean islands of Grenada, Jamaica, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were also affected by the storm, with a total of eight reported deaths in these areas. Despite the devastation caused by Beryl, the storm’s intensity has been attributed to unusually warm ocean waters, a phenomenon linked to human-caused climate change.

The US National Hurricane Center has issued warnings for northeastern Mexico and Texas, urging residents to take precautions as the storm approaches. Experts caution that Beryl could strengthen further if it remains over warm waters longer than expected. As the storm continues to gain strength, emergency response teams are preparing for potentially significant impacts in the affected areas.
