Virginia baseball continues to strengthen its pitching staff with the addition of left-handed reliever Matt Lanzendorfer, a DIII All-American from Misericordia. Lanzendorfer, who helped Misericordia win the 2024 Division III National Championship, posted impressive stats in his breakout season, with a 1.24 ERA, 50 strikeouts, and only 12 walks in 43.2 innings of work. He was named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom First Team and Third-Team All-American by D3Baseball.com.

In a recent Instagram post, Lanzendorfer expressed his excitement to join the University of Virginia and his determination to help bring a national championship to the ACC. He played a pivotal role in Misericordia’s championship run, delivering clutch performances in the NCAA Tournament and College World Series Finals. With the addition of Lanzendorfer, Virginia has now picked up four transfer pitchers this offseason, including Wesley Arrington, Will Riley, and Alex Markus.

Lanzendorfer’s success on the mound and championship experience make him a valuable addition to the Cavaliers’ pitching staff, which continues to receive reinforcements through the transfer portal. His ability to deliver in pressure situations and shut down opposing batters will be crucial for Virginia as they aim to compete at the highest level in the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to seeing Lanzendorfer in action as he brings his talent and winning mentality to the Cavaliers’ baseball program.
