Multiple Trump family members have been speaking at the Republican National Convention, however, Melania Trump has been notably absent from the event. Despite plans to appear at some point, she did not attend when Senator J.D. Vance accepted the party’s vice presidential nomination. Melania’s last public statement was after an assassination attempt on her husband, former President Donald Trump.
The convention is taking place in Milwaukee, where Trump is expected to formally accept the nomination for the 2024 Election. Melania’s absence marks a break in tradition, as spouses of presidential candidates typically give speeches at the convention. She previously spoke at the 2016 and 2020 conventions, with her 2016 speech facing controversy for similarities to one by Michelle Obama.
Melania has not been seen much on the campaign trail this year, only appearing at private events and public voting locations. She has not attended primary victory celebrations or Trump’s trial in New York. Melania’s statement after the assassination attempt condemned the violence and criticized the shooter, who was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Crooks.
Her absence from the convention and limited appearances this year have raised questions about her involvement in the campaign. Melania has indicated a potential return to the campaign trail in the future, but for now, she remains mostly out of the public eye.
