Six people, three women and three men of Vietnamese ethnicity, were found dead at an upscale hotel in Bangkok under mysterious circumstances. Authorities discovered traces of cyanide in the victims’ blood. The group checked into the Grand Hyatt Erawan hotel at separate times and were found dead after failing to check out. The police believe they had been dead for over 20 hours before they were discovered, with cyanide poisoning suspected as the cause.
The victims were found in the same hotel room, but had checked into different rooms. There were no signs of violence, and no wounds were found on the bodies. A dispute over debt related to an investment in a hospital in Japan may have led to the deaths.
The incident is not believed to be related to criminal activities and will not impact tourism in Bangkok. The U.S. State Department is monitoring the situation and is ready to provide consular assistance. The embassies of Vietnam and the United States have been contacted, and the FBI is en route to investigate the incident.
The hotel has not responded to requests for comment, and further tests to confirm cyanide poisoning as the cause of death are pending. The investigation is ongoing, with multiple agencies involved in determining the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
