Latoya Burke from Chesapeake, Virginia, had an incredibly lucky day when she won $180,000 by playing the same five numbers six times in the Virginia Lottery’s Pick 5 game. Burke matched all five numbers in the June 5 drawing, winning $30,000 per ticket for a total of $180,000. The winning numbers were 5-5-5-5-0.
Virginia Lottery spokesperson Jennifer Mullen described Burke’s win as a unique and exciting one. Pick 5 is drawn twice a day with a top prize of $50,000, and the odds of matching all five numbers in exact order are 1 in 100,000. The Virginia Lottery was established in 1987, and since then, profits have supported K-12 public education in the state. In 2023, over $867 million was contributed to public education from the lottery.
Burke did not disclose her plans for the winnings, but schools in Chesapeake received over $27.2 million from the Virginia Lottery in 2023. The Commonwealth’s budget for K-12 schools benefits significantly from the lottery’s contributions. Overall, the Virginia Lottery plays a crucial role in supporting public education in the state.
