The Khadija School in Deir el-Balah, Gaza, was the target of an Israeli attack that left at least 30 people dead, including 15 children and eight women. More than 100 people were wounded in the school attack, which the Israeli military claimed was aimed at a Hamas command and control center. The school was reportedly being used to launch attacks against Israeli troops.
The Israeli military also conducted attacks in Khan Younis in southern Gaza, resulting in at least 23 deaths. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported a total of more than 50 people killed in central and southern Gaza as a result of the Israeli attacks.
Following the attacks, Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah received numerous wounded Palestinians, some arriving on foot with blood-stained clothes. The hospital was overwhelmed with critical injuries, with patients receiving treatment on the floor and in all departments.
Hamas condemned the attacks, calling them a massacre and accusing Israel of violating human values and laws of war. The group urged the international community and the United Nations to take action to stop Israeli crimes in Gaza.
The United Nations and other humanitarian agencies have criticized Israel’s displacement of Gaza’s civilian population and attacks on areas previously designated as safe zones. The escalating violence in Gaza has resulted in over 180,000 people being displaced in the Khan Younis area alone.
