Israel Defense Forces launch strikes in Lebanon following an attack on Golan Heights

Israel’s military retaliated against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon following a deadly rocket strike that killed 12 people, mostly teenagers and children. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed a response to the attack, raising fears of further escalation. The military targeted Hezbollah weapons caches and infrastructure in several areas of Lebanon. The attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights was the deadliest since Hamas’s assault on October 7.

Paramedics described a horrific scene at the soccer field where the attack took place, with dozens of injured children. Israel claimed Hezbollah was responsible for the incident, but the militant group denied the allegations. Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border have been high, with regular exchanges of fire between Hezbollah, supported by Iran, and Israeli forces.

The rocket strike in Majdal Shams followed a deadly bombing in central Gaza, where at least 30 Palestinians were killed in an attack on a school used as a shelter for displaced people. The total number of casualties in Gaza since the conflict began is staggering, with thousands dead or injured. Israel estimates that hundreds of soldiers were killed in previous attacks by Hamas.

The situation remains tense, with fears of further violence and retaliation on both sides. Netanyahu has promised that Hezbollah will face consequences for the attack, suggesting that the Israeli response may escalate the conflict further.
