The Community Resilience Innovation Challenge aims to tackle the issue of flooding and rising sea levels in Hampton Roads by engaging entrepreneurs in finding solutions. The initiative is a collaboration between Hampton Roads RISE Resilience Innovations and LISC Hampton Roads, with the goal of strengthening coastal communities by addressing environmental concerns in the area, as stated by LISC executive director Jay Grant.
LISC, a national nonprofit, provides financing and support for community development, while RISE, a Norfolk-based nonprofit, focuses on enabling businesses to innovate and help communities adapt to climate change. Betsy Hnath, RISE’s communication officer, emphasizes the importance of RISE in the region and Virginia as a whole, as they source solutions to resilience-related threats, fund businesses working on these challenges, and more.
Entrepreneurs participating in the challenge are tasked with creating practical solutions that can make a difference in coastal communities. The winners, set to be announced in September, will receive up to $1 million to implement their plans. For more information and to get involved, interested parties can visit RISEResilience.org and LISC.org.
The initiative provides a platform for entrepreneurs to address critical issues facing Hampton Roads, offering funding and support for innovative solutions to protect residents from the impacts of climate change. By engaging the entrepreneurial community, the challenge aims to drive positive change and build resilience in coastal communities.
