Paris Olympics 2024: Recap of Day One Medals in Rugby Sevens, Cycling, and Judo


France had an outstanding start to the Paris Olympics, winning their first gold medal in the men’s rugby sevens, with Antoine Dupont leading the team to a 28-7 victory over Fiji. This marked France’s first gold in men’s rugby sevens and ended Fiji’s 17-match winning streak at the Olympics. Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel also impressed, winning the gold in the men’s individual time trial. Australia’s Grace Brown triumphed in the women’s cycling time trial event.

In judo, France secured two medals, with Shirine Boukli winning bronze in the women’s under 48kg category. Japan’s Natsumi Tsunoda took home the gold in that event. American rugby player Perry Baker made history by becoming the all-time leading men’s scorer in Olympic rugby sevens.
