Former President Donald Trump urged Christians attending a summit hosted by Turning Point Action to vote in the upcoming election and promised that if he wins, they wouldn’t have to vote again because “it’ll be fixed.” He made these comments during a speech at the Believers’ Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida, hosted by the conservative group. Trump emphasized the importance of conservative Christian voters in his base and the necessity of turning out to vote in the upcoming election.
Recent polls have shown Trump’s lead in the presidential race slipping, with him now neck-and-neck with likely Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite facing charges for allegedly conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election, Trump has continued to make authoritarian statements on the campaign trail, suggesting he would be a dictator for “one day” if elected again.
During his speech, Trump also portrayed himself as a spiritual figurehead, recounting an assassination attempt and claiming he felt like he had God on his side. However, the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution limits presidents to serving only two terms. Trump’s comments about fixing the election and his admiration for authoritarian leaders like Xi Jinping, Viktor Orbán, and Vladimir Putin have raised concerns about his intentions if reelected.
