In a dramatic turn of events at the Belgian Grand Prix, George Russell’s disqualification had a significant impact on the 2024 F1 World Championship chase. The disqualification helped McLaren gain an extra point on Red Bull, with Max Verstappen extending his drivers’ championship lead over Lando Norris, despite a 10-place grid penalty that restricted Max to fourth place. Norris’s slip-up at the first corner proved costly, as he not only failed to capitalize on Verstappen’s penalty but also lost ground to his title rival.

Following Russell’s disqualification, he dropped to eighth in the standings, 34 points behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen gained two points over Norris, extending his lead to 78 points with 10 races remaining. Oscar Piastri’s strong performance for McLaren has propelled him up to fourth in the championship, just 10 points behind Charles Leclerc.

In the constructors’ championship, Red Bull’s advantage over McLaren has been reduced to 42 points, with Mercedes sitting in fourth place behind Ferrari. Aston Martin leads the midfield battle with 73 points, a significant 193 points behind Mercedes.

These results highlight the intense competition in the 2024 F1 season, with several teams and drivers vying for the championship title. The remaining races promise to be exciting as the battle for the top spots continues to unfold.
