Authorities believe they have found the body of a warehouse worker who went missing after a storm caused a roof collapse at a commercial building in Phoenix. The man, identified as 22-year-old Oswaldo Montoya, was found near the center of the building. The Phoenix Police Department is investigating the death, and the victim’s identity will be confirmed by the medical examiner.
Montoya, described as a hard worker supporting his family, was remembered as a great dad, brother, son, and son-in-law. Crews searched the scene for three days using drones and rescue dogs, and removing tens of thousands of pounds of concrete and debris.
The roof collapse was described as catastrophic, with 40-foot racks of products collapsing and piling down. Crews used heavy equipment, including cranes and Bobcats, to search the site. The rescue operation was considered high risk, and structural engineers worked to prevent a secondary collapse.
Authorities expressed their condolences to Montoya’s family and expressed regret that this was not the outcome they had hoped for. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated worker and family man who tragically lost his life in the warehouse accident.
