The Veterans Memorial Museum of Southern West Virginia, located in Hinton, is calling on the public to visit and learn about the history and spirit of the railroad that is encapsulated within its walls. Established to provide a home for artifacts carried home by veterans from various wars, the museum houses items dating back to the Revolutionary War. While visitor numbers took a hit during the pandemic, President Tim Wheeler noted a recent increase in visitors this year.
Senator Jack David Woodrum, who sits on the museum’s board, believes the museum is an essential educational tool, particularly for younger generations. He stressed the importance of educating children about what it means to be an American, a task in which the museum plays a significant role.
The museum is currently open on Saturdays from 11 am to 3 pm, with group tours available by appointment. Located at 419 Ballengee Street in Hinton, the Veterans Memorial Museum of Southern West Virginia is a hidden gem that showcases the rich history and sacrifices of American veterans.
