Three scholars who will be starting at Virginia Tech as faculty members in the 2024-25 academic year through the Future Faculty Diversity Program have been awarded Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowships. The recipients, Jamie Bucholz, Claudia Nuñez-Penichet, and Sydney Turner, will receive significant support for up to two years as they continue their research at the university.

The highly competitive fellowship includes competitive salaries, benefits, and $5,000 per year for training and professional development. The scholars will also receive mentoring and professional development in their respective fields of study. These awards highlight the success of the Future Faculty Diversity Program in preparing scholars for successful careers in academia.

Erica Cooper, the assistant provost for faculty diversity at Virginia Tech, praised the scholars for their achievements and emphasized the importance of the program in providing opportunities for talented researchers to excel. The scholars’ research aligns with the program’s focus on Health Frontier and Security Frontier, addressing issues related to whole health, animal, environment, and human health integration, as well as preparedness for global threats.
