Szyper Joins Virginia Energy as New Deputy Director


The Virginia Department of Energy announced the appointment of Julianne Szyper as their new Deputy Director this week. With a background spanning government, politics, corporate, and non-profit sectors, Szyper brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. Virginia Energy Director Glenn Davis expressed his excitement about Szyper joining the team, highlighting her previous experience as Chief of Staff for Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears.

Szyper expressed her honor at being part of the Virginia Energy team, particularly under Governor Youngkin’s focus on clean, affordable, and reliable energy sources. She emphasized her enthusiasm for showcasing the work being done by individuals across the Commonwealth in various energy sectors.

Prior to her role at Virginia Energy, Szyper served as a Vice President at a Richmond government relations and association management firm, representing a diverse range of interests. She also held positions in the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate, as well as on national, state, and local leadership boards and commissions. In 2023, Szyper led a delegation from Richmond to Poland, where she engaged with local leaders from several European countries.

Szyper’s educational background includes completion of The Sorensen Political Leaders Program at UVA and the earning of a B.A. in Government, as well as an M.A. in Government with a concentration in Law and Public Policy from Regent University in Virginia Beach. The Virginia Department of Energy looks forward to leveraging Szyper’s expertise in advancing their mission of promoting energy growth and stability in the Commonwealth.
