The Commonwealth of Virginia is set to become a hub for innovation with the development of a new sports and entertainment district at Potomac Yard. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick believes that this project will not only create thousands of jobs and generate billions of dollars in economic impact but also foster meaningful connections with key corporate partners in the region such as Amazon, Boeing, and Raytheon.
Owned by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, the district will be located on the Potomac River in close proximity to Washington, D.C. It will be easily accessible by various modes of transportation and will be situated near important locations such as the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus and Amazon HQ2. This strategic placement will allow for unique partnerships between MSE and Virginia Tech in areas such as entrepreneurship, sports analytics, and innovative business strategies.
Virginia Tech President Tim Sands expressed excitement about MSE’s plans to be a part of the Potomac Yard community, emphasizing the potential for collaboration and the creation of an exciting and vibrant future together. The project is contingent upon legislative approval by the Virginia General Assembly and the City of Alexandria, with plans to create a new Virginia Sports and Entertainment Authority. The partnership aims to further solidify Virginia’s position as a catalyst for innovation and a prime regional destination for sports and entertainment.
