VT Hokiesports.com announces Moore’s selection to Ray Guy Award watch list

Virginia Tech senior punter Brian Moore has been named to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation’s top punter. Moore, a graduate transfer from Rice University, is entering his first season with the Hokies.

During his time at Rice, Moore averaged 40.9 yards per punt, with a career-long punt of 67 yards. He also had 20 punts inside the 20-yard line and four touchbacks. Moore brings experience and consistency to the Tech special teams unit, which will be crucial as the team looks to improve upon last season’s performance.

Moore is one of 27 punters named to the watch list, which will be narrowed down to a group of semi-finalists in November and eventually to three finalists. The winner of the 2021 Ray Guy Award will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards show in December.

Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry praised Moore’s work ethic and leadership, stating that he has been impressed with Moore’s transition to the Hokies program. Pry also noted that Moore’s experience and skill set will be valuable assets for the team this season.

Moore is looking to continue the tradition of success at Virginia Tech, as the program has a history of producing top punters. Former Hokies punter A.J. Hughes was a finalist for the Ray Guy Award in 2015.

The Hokies are set to begin their season on September 3rd against North Carolina. As Moore embarks on this new chapter in his collegiate career, he will be looking to make a significant impact on the field and hopefully bring home the prestigious Ray Guy Award for Virginia Tech.
