23-year-old Jared James Dicus was sentenced to 40 years in prison for decapitating his newlywed bride, Anggy Diaz, in Texas. The couple had married in October 2022, and the murder occurred on January 11, 2023, in a small cabin near Magnolia. Diaz was found decapitated and dismembered by deputies who responded to a 911 call from Dicus’ parents.
Dicus admitted to killing his wife when detectives arrived at the scene, and he was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Despite potential mental health issues being raised during the pre-trial phase, Dicus was deemed competent to stand trial after a court-ordered examination. He will not be eligible for parole until 2043 due to the aggravated nature of the offense.
Prosecutors emphasized that Waller County does not tolerate domestic violence and vowed to seek justice for victims, condemning heinous crimes like the one committed by Dicus. The District Attorney expressed determination to fight for victims of domestic violence and punish perpetrators.
The sentencing reflects the severity of the crime and sends a clear message about the consequences of domestic violence in the community. Dicus’ actions were met with a strict punishment to ensure that justice is served for the victim, Anggy Diaz, and to deter future incidents of violence against spouses.
