Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov of Russia’s Belgorod region has declared a state of emergency due to difficult and tense conditions in the area. The region borders Ukraine’s Kharkiv region and had been attacked by Ukrainian drones, causing damage to property. The situation escalated as Ukraine launched a surprise offensive in neighboring Kursk.
At the same time, tensions are high at the Sudzha crossing where Ukrainian troops have pushed into Russia. Reports indicate that Ukrainian forces remain in control of several settlements in the Kursk region, leaving Russian authorities scrambling to regain control of the territory.
Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s western Kursk region has continued, with Russia claiming to have destroyed 117 Ukrainian drones in the area. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that despite intense battles, Ukrainian forces continue to advance in the region, with 74 communities under their control.
The international community, including Estonia’s Prime Minister Kristen Michal, is showing support for Ukraine and condemning Russia’s actions. Germany has issued an arrest warrant for a Ukrainian man in connection with the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. Discussions regarding peace talks with Russia have been put on hold as tensions escalate between the two countries.
