Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised his military’s offensive into Russia’s Kursk region, stating that it was unfolding as expected and that their foothold was growing stronger. Ukrainian forces were determined to repel any Russian attempts to retake the seized land, with their air force damaging a second bridge to hinder Russian combat operations. Russian President Vladimir Putin downplayed the incursion, blaming the U.S. and the West. Two women were wounded in Ukraine’s drone attacks on Russia’s border region. Displaced residents of Kursk’s Korenevo District were warned not to return home yet due to continued conflict. The Russian missile strike on Kyiv was the third this month, with most projectiles being intercepted. The attacks were seen as a response to Ukraine’s successful incursion into the Kursk region. The ongoing conflict has led to the evacuation of over 120,000 civilians in the region. The situation has caused confusion and panic among residents, who did not expect such conflict to reach the Kursk region. Russia originally invaded Ukraine two-and-a-half years ago and currently holds about 20% of its territory in the east and south.
