The Garcia family has filed a lawsuit against a nursing home in Oregon where Lucy Garcia, 72, was treated and later died from complications of a pressure ulcer. The lawsuit alleges negligence and recklessness on the part of the facility, claiming that Garcia’s needs were not properly met, despite assurances from the facility’s staff. Garcia developed a pressure ulcer that later became infected, ultimately leading to her death due to sepsis. The family’s attorney is seeking at least $25,000 in damages, arguing that the nursing home prioritized profit over residents’ well-being. The lawsuit also alleges that the facility failed to properly care for Garcia’s wound, resulting in a Stage 4 bedsore that ultimately led to her death. Despite concerns raised by family members, the facility was hesitant to send Garcia to the hospital, where it was discovered that the wound was so severe that bones in her back were exposed. Garcia was treated with IV antibiotics but ultimately succumbed to complications from the wound. The lawsuit claims that the nursing home’s negligence and recklessness directly contributed to Garcia’s death, leaving behind a large family who viewed her as the center of their family unit. Garcia’s family is seeking justice for her death and accountability from the nursing home for their failure to provide adequate care.
