Midlothian, Va. — The Alabama A&M Bulldogs showcased their bowling prowess this past weekend, clinching the top spot at the Virginia Union Invitational with an impressive 9-1 record. The tournament, hosted by Virginia Union University, featured fierce competition, including teams from Fayetteville University, Howard University, Norfolk State University, Coppin State University, and Virginia State University.
Key performances from the Bulldogs were instrumental in their victory. Tamrya Long led the squad with 939 total points, averaging 187.8 over five games, earning her a well-deserved All-Tournament Team selection. Close behind was teammate Rose Ugbinada, who amassed 909 points and shone particularly during the fourth traditional match with a notable 232 score, the second-highest of the tournament, also securing her spot on the All-Tournament Team.
The Bulldogs’ overall team strategy proved effective, with all five players placing in the top 20 scoring ranks. Alexis Orchard contributed significantly with a solid average of 170.8, finishing in 10th place overall.
The tournament unfolded over three days, comprised of both Baker matches and traditional team matches. Notably, the Bulldogs faced a narrow setback in their final traditional match against Coppin State, where they fell 963 to 846.
