Virginia Politics Insider: Moving Forward to the Supreme Court

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a federal judge’s ruling that Virginia must restore 1,600 purged voters to the rolls. The judge’s order, issued in response to an executive order from Gov. Glenn Youngkin, found that the state’s attempt to remove ineligible voters violated federal law. Virginia plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. Meanwhile, U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries campaigned for Eugene Vindman in the 7th District contest, and former President Donald Trump called into a rally in Chesterfield. Early voting in Virginia is similar to 2020, while Dominion Energy plans to double its electricity output to reduce emissions.

In other news, America’s oldest school for Black children is opening to the public in Williamsburg, Dominion Energy proposes to increase solar and wind generation to cut carbon emissions, and VCU received a record $500 million in research funding. The record for the most living former presidents is five, and if Vice President Kamala Harris wins, the U.S. could have six living former presidents. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Virginia’s argument that its voter purges were not systematic in violation of federal law.
