Junior forward Taylor White of the West Virginia University women’s soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring her second brace of the season. White scored two goals within 33 seconds of each other in the 50th minute of a 4-1 win over Houston, helping the team officially clinch the No. 3 seed in the 2024 Big 12 Championship. With seven goals this season, White is now tied for the team lead and has helped lead the Mountaineers to their ninth top-three regular-season conference finish since joining the Big 12. The team, ranked No. 24 in the NCAA RPI rankings, now looks ahead to the Big 12 Championship, where they have earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of Kansas vs. Arizona State on November 2.
In other sports news, the men’s soccer team went 1-0-1 last week, sitting at No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and currently leading the Sun Belt standings. The volleyball team picked up their second Big 12 win of the season and will face Kansas State and No. 9 Kansas this week. The golf team finished fifth at the White Sands Collegiate in the Bahamas, while the cross country team is gearing up for the Big 12 Championships. The swimming and diving teams competed against Kentucky, with standout performances from senior Danny Berlitz and sophomore Victoria Kidney.
Overall, West Virginia University’s athletic teams are performing well across various sports and are looking to continue their success in upcoming competitions.
