Palace Failed Prince Andrew in Handling Virginia Giuffre Allegations

Attorney Paul Tweed, a friend of the York family, claims that Buckingham Palace’s mishandling of Andrew’s allegations, especially after his 2019 interview regarding Jeffrey Epstein, failed to support him adequately and led to public outrage. Tweed believes that the palace’s lack of immediate action worsened Andrew’s situation. Following the interview, Andrew faced criticism for his lack of empathy for Epstein’s victims and failure to explain his friendship with Epstein convincingly. The palace’s response was perceived as inadequate, with no public statements to address concerns or defend Andrew.

In 2022, Virginia Giuffre, who accused Andrew of assault, accepted a financial settlement from him, believed to have been funded by Queen Elizabeth II. The settlement reportedly included a charitable contribution, monetary compensation, and a statement acknowledging the claims. David Boies, Giuffre’s lawyer, stated that Andrew seemed pleased with the outcome. The Duke of York has not performed royal engagements for nearly five years and faces public exile from royal life. Newsnight producer Sam McAlister revealed that there is no way back for Andrew to public royal life in the UK.

These developments took place following the release of a movie on Amazon Prime Video, titled A Very Royal Scandal, which explores Andrew’s interactions with Emily Maitlis and the events leading up to his infamous interview. Despite his desire to return to royal duties, it seems unlikely that Prince Andrew will be able to regain public favor or resume his official roles in the monarchy.
