Promoting Health in Rural Virginia | Virginia Living

Sentara Health is taking action to promote the spread of hospitals and cater to the needs of rural communities in Virginia. They have increased their investment in the reconstruction of the dated Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston from $70 million to over $107 million. The new hospital will feature updated systems, general surgical procedures, intensive care, and observation beds, with completion expected by summer 2026.

The new hospital will be smaller than the previous one, going from 300,000 square feet to about 100,000 square feet, as only one-third of the original building was occupied. The design will focus on creating comfortable rooms for patients and incorporating more green space around the hospital to integrate nature into the healing process.

This investment reflects Sentara’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to rural areas, where hospitals are facing a nationwide decline. By investing in updated infrastructure and technology, Sentara is ensuring that the new hospital will be equipped with the tools needed for years to come. Rural communities can rely on Sentara to prioritize their health and well-being, no matter where they are located in the state.
