Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed his excitement at having a friend in the White House with President-elect Trump’s recent victory. As a pro-business, pro-education governor, Youngkin believes the Trump administration aligns with his priorities. Although he intends to finish his term, he is open to helping Trump in the future.
Youngkin gained popularity by winning the governorship as a first-time candidate and garnered speculation of a 2024 White House run. Despite a legislative setback last year, signs point to Democrats potentially cooperating more with his agenda moving forward. He is optimistic about pushing through tax relief measures and supporting education and public safety.
In the upcoming 2025 gubernatorial election, Youngkin is supporting his Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears to succeed him. Despite criticism questioning her conservatism, Youngkin sees Sears as a common-sense conservative leader who will continue his initiatives. Sears would become Virginia’s first female governor and the nation’s first Black female elected governor if she wins.
When questioned about his own future political aspirations, Youngkin remained focused on his current responsibilities as governor. While leaving the door open for possibilities down the road, Youngkin emphasized his commitment to finishing his term strong in Virginia.
