West Virginia Mountaineers dominate Iona Gaels in 86-43 victory
Javon Small led the charge as the West Virgnina Mountaineers secured a resounding 86-43 win over the Iona Gaels. Small scored 23 points and contributed with five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. The Mountaineers, now 3-1 for the season, bounced back from a previous loss to Pitt.
Jonathan Powell also played a key role in the victory, scoring all 11 of his points in the first ten minutes of the game. Tucker DeVries added 13 points, three steals, and three blocks, while Amani Hansberry chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds. West Virginia’s sharp-shooting was on display, shooting 51.8 percent from the floor and making 15 of 31 3-pointers.
Iona struggled to keep up with West Virginia’s pace, committing 21 turnovers which the Mountaineers capitalized on, turning them into 26 points. Despite efforts from James Patterson and Luke Jungers, Iona’s top scorer, Dejour Reaves, was held scoreless.
The game saw West Virginia take an early lead and maintain their dominance throughout, with Small and Powell leading the charge. The Mountaineers pulled away in the first half, going into halftime with a comfortable lead.
