City and county offices, courts, schools, and libraries in several areas of Virginia will be closed on Monday due to the Labor Day holiday. The closures will affect Chesapeake, Hampton, James City County, Newport News, Norfolk, Poquoson, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, and York County.
Garbage collection will continue as usual in most areas, but Hampton residents should note that Monday’s pickup will be delayed until Wednesday. In Newport News, there will be no garbage collection on Monday, with all pickups for the week being delayed by one day.
Travel services, including Hampton Roads Transit, will operate on a regular schedule on Monday. However, transit center information booths will be closed, and public access to administrative facilities will be limited. The customer service call center will be available from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Post offices will be closed on Monday, with no regular mail delivery. In terms of recreation, Chesapeake, Hampton, Norfolk, Poquoson, and Williamsburg will be closed, while Portsmouth will have limited openings. James City County, Newport News, and Virginia Beach recreation facilities will be open.
State-wide, DMV Customer Service centers will also be closed on Monday. Citizens are advised to plan accordingly for these closures and schedule any necessary errands or appointments accordingly.
