Reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, which was closed after a fire in April 2019, is nearly complete with the release of photos and videos of the newly reconstructed place of worship. The fire, ruled to be accidental due to either an electrical fault or a smoldering cigarette left by a worker, caused considerable damage to the iconic landmark. French President Emmanuel Macron promised to rebuild the cathedral “more beautiful than ever” and with more than $700 million in donations, the restoration process began.
Before the fire, Notre-Dame Cathedral was admired for its architectural beauty, colorful glass, and important relics including the Crown of Thorns. The cathedral, which will reopen on December 7 and 8 by invitation only, has planned a series of reopening celebrations starting the week of December 7 and concluding in June 2025 with events leading up to Pentecost. The reopening will feature two “Magnificat” concerts on December 17 and 18.
The cathedral’s website provides a look inside the newly reconstructed Notre-Dame Cathedral, showcasing the progress made in restoring the iconic landmark following the devastating fire. This new chapter in the history of Notre-Dame marks a step towards the cathedral being restored to its former glory, fulfilling President Macron’s promise of rebuilding it “more beautiful than ever.”
