The Augusta men’s basketball team secured a crucial 81-74 road victory over Virginia Union with a late surge at the free-throw line. Demitri Gardner led the Jaguars with 23 points and 11 rebounds, hitting all eight of his free throws in the final minutes. Maximillian Amadasun added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Evan Joyner contributed 14 points and John St. Germain III added 12.
Augusta overcame a halftime deficit to take the lead for good in the second half, shooting 40% from the field and making 21 of 22 free throws. The Jaguars outrebounded Virginia Union by nine and hit six three-pointers compared to the Panthers’ four.
TJ Baker, in his second straight start, provided four assists, five points, and key rebounds. Joyner, recovering from a foot injury, had his best performance of the season with 14 points on efficient shooting.
