Virginia mom’s missing husband charged with murder – NBC4 Washington

Naresh Bhatt, the husband of missing Northern Virginia mother Mamta Kafle Bhatt, has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge by a grand jury. Initially only charged with concealing his wife’s body, Bhatt now also faces a felony count of physically defiling a dead body. Evidence linking him to the crime includes blood found in their home, cadaver dogs indicating a body was present, and surveillance video showing him disposing of trash in various dumpsters.

The investigation into Mamta Kafle Bhatt’s disappearance began on August 2 when police visited the Bhatts’ home after she failed to show up for work. Naresh Bhatt claimed his wife had left home and indicated she was heading to New York or Texas, while also mentioning plans of splitting up. However, police believe she was killed inside their home and her body disposed of elsewhere.

During a court hearing in September, prosecutors presented evidence of Bhatt placing garbage bags in dumpsters and a bloody bathmat found in items donated to charity. Mamta Kafle Bhatt’s disappearance garnered community attention as she missed her daughter’s first birthday. The case has led to a major search effort and community outcry.
