Watson and Love recognized with ACC weekly honors

Virginia Tech’s quarterback William “Pop” Watson III and kicker John Love have been named ACC Players of the Week for their outstanding performances in a 37-17 win over Virginia. Watson, in his first career start, was named Rookie of the Week after totaling 302 yards of offense and scoring two touchdowns. He completed 14 passes for 254 yards and rushed for 48 yards and a touchdown. Love, on the other hand, connected on all three of his field goal attempts and was perfect on PATs, scoring a total of 13 points in the game.

With this win, Virginia Tech has now defeated their in-state rivals 23 times in the last 25 meetings and secured their 36th bowl game appearance in school history. Watson’s 66-yard touchdown pass to Jaylin Lane was the longest pass play of the season for the Hokies. Love, a product of Spartanburg, South Carolina, was crucial in securing the victory with his accurate kicking.

The duo’s impressive performances have helped Virginia Tech improve to a 7-4 record on the season, with hopes of finishing strong in their final game. Fans are excited to see what Watson and Love can continue to achieve as they lead the team into the postseason.
