Harry Minium Jr., Senior Executive Writer at ODU, to be honored with induction into Virginia Sports Hall of Fame


Harry Minium Jr., a senior executive writer for Old Dominion athletics, will be inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in April. With over 50 years of history with ODU, Minium will be the 20th member with ties to the university. The Hall of Fame has inducted 363 members since 1972. Minium, a Norfolk native and ODU graduate, has been a dedicated sports journalist covering various sports teams, including ODU, throughout his career.

Minium’s contributions to sports journalism have been recognized by colleagues and sports figures, with letters of support from notable names such as Frank Beamer and Kenny Easley. He is praised for his dedication and integrity in his work. Minium’s family is deeply rooted in ODU, with several members having attended the university.

Having earned numerous writing awards during his time at The Virginian-Pilot and ODU, Minium has established himself as a respected journalist in Virginia. He covers all 18 ODU athletic teams for the university’s athletics web page and has been a valued member of the ODU community.

The induction ceremony will take place at the Westin Hotel in Town Center on April 25-26. Minium will be honored alongside other sports figures, such as former basketball star Joe Smith and soccer player Ali Krieger. The event will also feature a “Breakfast with Champions” where attendees can meet the hall of fame inductees. Ticket information for the ceremony is available on the Hall of Fame’s website.
