Luigi Mangione, 26, has been arrested in connection to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City. Police recovered bullet casings with cryptic messages written on them at the crime scene. Handwritten papers found on Mangione suggest his ill will towards corporate America. Thompson was shot outside a hotel where he was set to speak at an investment conference. The alleged shooter fled the scene on foot and later took a cab and an electric bike. Mangione was spotted in Altoona, Pennsylvania at a McDonald’s where he was arrested after acting suspiciously and carrying fraudulent IDs. In Pennsylvania, he faces charges related to forgery, weapons possession, and false identification to law enforcement. In New York, Mangione has been charged with murder and multiple weapons felonies. Detectives are traveling to Altoona to interview Mangione and additional charges related to Thompson’s shooting will be determined by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. The motive behind the shooting appears to be Mangione’s animosity towards corporate America as indicated by the handwritten documents found in his possession.
