Zelensky refuses to risk young troops for weapons from the West in conflict with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected Western pressure to lower Ukraine’s conscription age, stating that the focus should be on providing missiles and lowering Russia’s military potential rather than mobilizing more troops. This comes after reports that the US tied additional military support to Ukraine’s willingness to mobilize more soldiers. Zelensky emphasized the need to preserve lives rather than weapons in storage, as allies work to end Russia’s full-scale invasion.

In other news, Germany is seeking access to a dual Russian-German citizen detained in Russia on suspicion of preparing an act of sabotage on a railroad. The Federal Security Service in Russia has detained the individual, who was found with an improvised explosive device at his home and evidence of corresponding with Ukrainian special services.

Meanwhile, Russian missile attacks on Ukraine’s Kharkiv region have injured ten people and destroyed an administrative building. Russian forces have also reportedly captured the village of Zhovte in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin has stated that the war in Ukraine will continue until President Vladimir Putin’s goals are met, either through military action or negotiations.

Amidst all these developments, Ukrainian President Zelensky is set to raise the issue of a NATO invite at a European meeting, seeking security guarantees and military aid for Ukraine. This ongoing conflict continues to have far-reaching implications, with efforts to repatriate deported Ukrainian children coming to light as well.
