Aston Villa Women Discuss the Future of Manager Robert de Pauw

Aston Villa’s women’s first-team manager, Robert de Pauw, is facing uncertainty about his future at the club following a 4-0 defeat to Arsenal. With Villa currently ninth in the Women’s Super League, De Pauw has only managed one victory in his first nine league fixtures. Senior staff at Aston Villa discussed his position on Tuesday, and it remains unclear if he will remain in charge for Wednesday’s League Cup match against Charlton Athletic.

De Pauw did not lead the club’s usual training session on Tuesday, further fueling speculation about his future. The Dutchman posted a cryptic message on LinkedIn about the challenges of making difficult decisions as a football manager and not seeking popularity.

De Pauw, who signed a three-year deal in June with Villa, previously managed in Germany and the Netherlands, achieving success at FC Twente before joining Aston Villa. He took over from former manager Carla Ward, who had overseen several mid-table finishes during her tenure.

Aston Villa’s women’s team will continue fighting to secure their position in the Women’s Super League and progress in the League Cup, with De Pauw’s leadership under scrutiny. The club has not provided official comment on the situation.
