Palestinian medics report at least 29 killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza

Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip overnight and into Wednesday resulted in at least 29 people killed, according to Palestinian health officials. The strikes targeted a home in Beit Lahiya where displaced people were sheltering, as well as a refugee camp. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has shown no signs of ending, despite ceasefire talks repeatedly stalling.

The Israeli military claimed to target a Hamas militant near a hospital, while Palestinian sources reported civilian casualties, including women and children. Evacuation orders were issued in response to rocket fire from militants in central Gaza, leading to fears of further Israeli strikes in the area.

The war, which began in 2023, has resulted in significant civilian casualties on both sides, with thousands killed and many more missing. The United Nations has called the situation in Gaza “utterly devastating,” with civilians facing a dire lack of access to basic necessities like food, water, and healthcare.

Despite mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, Hamas has insisted on a full withdrawal of Israeli troops and an end to the war before releasing hostages. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the conflict until Hamas is destroyed and all hostages are returned.

The international community has expressed concern over the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with calls for a ceasefire becoming increasingly urgent. The situation remains volatile, with no immediate resolution in sight.
