West Virginia University looking to retain former Marshall transfer linebacker in-state

Marshall linebacker Landyn Watson has received an offer from West Virginia University, giving him the opportunity to jump to a Power Four level and stay in West Virginia. The offer came a day after Watson announced his intentions to transfer elsewhere for his final year of college.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 235 pounds, the Round Rock, Texas native had an impressive 2024 season with 66 total tackles and an interception, contributing to Marshall’s successful season that ended with 10 wins and a Sun Belt Conference title. Despite the team’s success, Marshall decided not to renew head coach Charles Huff’s contract, leading him to jump ship to Southern Miss. In his place, Marshall hired West Virginia native and former WVU assistant Tony Gibson.

Watson, a three-star recruit out of high school, also has a visit scheduled with Kentucky and offers from schools like Arizona, FAU, Mississippi State, USF, and the possibility of reuniting with coach Huff at Southern Miss. Fans can find more coverage of WVU football recruiting at WV Sports Now. This offer from WVU presents a promising opportunity for Watson to continue his football career at a higher level while remaining in the state of West Virginia.
