Israel forces Palestinians in Maghazi camp to flee for safety once more amid ongoing conflict in Israel-Palestine region

Israel has forced Palestinians from the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza to leave after claiming a rocket attack originated from the area. The Israeli military issued a threat of forced evacuation to Palestinians from a five-block area in the camp after Israel was hit by four rockets. The Israeli onslaught in Gaza has been ongoing for more than 14 months and has resulted in the deaths of over 44,805 Palestinians, mostly children and women.

Despite a ceasefire with Lebanon’s Hezbollah last month, the conflict in Gaza shows no signs of ending. Both the current and incoming United States administrations have expressed a desire to end the war in Gaza before Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Ceasefire talks are set to begin in Cairo, although past talks have repeatedly stalled.

The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly approved resolutions calling for an immediate Gaza ceasefire and supporting the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). Israel and the US were among only nine countries that voted against the resolutions, with 158 nations backing the ceasefire vote. Despite not being legally binding, the resolutions do reflect the international community’s sentiment.

The situation in Gaza remains tense and the ongoing violence continues to have devastating consequences for the Palestinian population. The conflict shows no signs of abating, despite international calls for peace and humanitarian assistance.
