Businesses in the following states will be closed on February 3rd

Businesses nationwide are participating in ‘Day Without Immigrants’ by closing their doors or giving employees paid time off in solidarity with the immigrant community targeted by President Donald Trump’s policies. The day follows Trump’s recent executive orders on immigration, including one that could end birthright citizenship. In response to these policies and ongoing fears of ICE raids, businesses are taking a stand to highlight the contribution of immigrants to society. The Laken Riley Act, signed by Trump, urges immigration officers to detain unauthorized immigrants accused of crimes, even if they are not convicted.

Demonstrations and closures are taking place in various states, with businesses in Maryland, Oklahoma, Colorado, Minnesota, and Illinois participating. Restaurants like La Casita Pupuseria, El Golfo, and Pearl’s Bagels are among those closing for the day to show support for immigrants. In Chicago, the owner of a Mexican restaurant emphasized the importance of allowing people to work without fear.

This is not the first time such a protest has occurred during Trump’s presidency. In 2017, businesses across the country participated in a similar demonstration, with employees skipping work and public marches taking place. The goal is to raise awareness and stress the value of immigrants to the community and local economy. The demonstrations highlight the vital role immigrants play in various industries and emphasize the need for fair and compassionate immigration policies.
