NBC4 Washington reports that a historic barn at Cox Farms is ravaged by flames

A beloved historic barn at Cox Farms in Centreville, Northern Virginia, was destroyed in a fire over the weekend. The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the blaze early Sunday morning, with flames shooting out of the roof of the barn. Fortunately, no people were injured, but a dozen chickens and a tractor were lost in the fire. Despite the loss of the barn, Cox Farms expressed relief that the damage was contained and that other structures and individuals on the property were unharmed.

The barn, which was over a century old and originally a dairy barn, was an iconic part of the landscape at Cox Farms. The fire resulted in the destruction of a large sunflower and other artwork that adorned the barn. However, the farm assured that Leona, a well-known pig at the property, was unharmed as she only lived at the barn during the fall seasons.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by officials, and Loudoun County firefighters were also on the scene to assist in extinguishing the flames. Despite the loss of the historic structure, Cox Farms remains thankful that no one was hurt and that the damage was not more extensive. The community is mourning the loss of the barn, which had been a central part of the fall festivities at Cox Farms for many years.
