Hiker dies after falling inside Zion National Park during the weekend

A 37-year-old hiker fell to his death inside Zion National Park in Utah over the weekend, according to officials. The incident was reported near the Canyon Overlook Trail, where Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue found the man and determined he was beyond help. The man’s identity has not yet been released, and the investigation into his death is ongoing.

This is not the only recent death inside Zion National Park, as another canyoneer died in October after falling between 150 and 200 feet while canyoneering through Heaps Canyon. Despite efforts to render aid, the 40-year-old man was pronounced dead before he could be flown to a hospital.

More than 30 personnel from the park’s search and rescue team, as well as the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Hurricane Valley Fire and Rescue, were involved in responding to both incidents. The National Park Service is working with local authorities to investigate these tragic deaths.
