Lee Enterprises, a media company that owns newspapers in Virginia and multiple other states, faced technical issues on Tuesday that disrupted the distribution of print and digital editions in certain markets. The company’s 70-plus news websites displayed messages indicating “system delays” affecting the delivery of printed newspapers and access to online E-Editions.
In Virginia, Lee owns newspapers in various cities, including Bristol, Charlottesville, Richmond, and Roanoke. Several papers announced on their websites and social media that they were unable to produce a printed newspaper for the day. While not all Lee newspapers publish daily editions, the combined circulation of printed editions on specific days exceeds 50,000 copies.
Customers faced difficulties signing up for subscriptions or accessing their accounts online due to maintenance-related issues. Despite offering partial versions of E-Editions with puzzles, comics, and advertisements, many local news pages were unavailable. The company reassured customers that they were working to resolve the problems promptly.
Lee Enterprises did not provide additional details about the cause of the technical disruptions. The outage impacted newspapers not only in Virginia but also in several other states where Lee operates. Readers were encouraged to check the company’s websites and social media platforms for updates on when regular services would resume.
